Historical Context
The Hackettstown Bank was chartered in New Jersey in 1855 with a capital of $100,000, which was increased to $150,000 when the company was reorganized as the Hackettstwon National Bank on June 10, 1856. At the time, the Company’s president was Seymour R. Smith, and its cashier was Henry W. Whipple.
The bank operated one branch office in Hackettstown and serviced the northern portion of Warren County, the southern portion of Sussex County, and the western portion of Morris County.
The bank operated independently until 1968 when it merged with the First National Bank of Washington to form the Warren County National Bank.
