Historical Context
The Bisbee Straight Motion Engne Co. was incorporated on November 24, 1913 in Arizona, and was based in Bisbee.
It appeared from records that F. D. Lane (whi has signed this piece as the company Vice President) was the owner of an invention of a certain automobile tire, and made an application to the United States Patent Office for a patent upon same, and that Bert Farmer and Lee S. Greble were the inventors of certain devices known as the "straight motion engine," "air cushions," and "turn staff" and applied to the patent office for a patent upon said devices.
It was the intention of the company to take over all of said above inventions by the issuing to F. D. Lane 50,000 shares and to Bert Farmer and Lee S. Goble 277,000 shares of its capital stock, and to sell to the public 60,000 shares as follows:
- 1,000 shares to be issued to each of 30 persons for $25.00
- 30,000 shares to be sold to the general public for 50c per share for the purpose of constructing working models of said inventions and promoting the sale of same.
However, there was absolutely nothing in the record to show the value, or practicability, of the inventions above mentioned, and nothing to show that the same had been protected by letters patent from the United States Patent Office. Accordingly, the stock was never offered to the general public.
This piece, being such a low seiral number (2) - was one of the few pieces issued, and was to one of the company's primary investors - in this case, Bert Farmer.
