Historical Context
The Palmer Mountain Tunnel and Power Company was organized in Arizona in 1905 to take over the holdings of the Palmer Mountain Gold Mining and Tunnel Company, which went under as a result of a bank failure.
The company had a rather sketchy existence. Although there were visions of grandeur to strike large veins of gold ore in Palmer Mountain, Washington state, and a one mile long tunnel was actually blasted to find the ore, the end result was less than successful.
The company also had plan of a complete working mill which was built, but never put into action.
The investors eventually asked the federal government to step in and investigate, and eventually the company went under around 1911.
Palmer Mountain is located in Washington's Cascade Range, northeast of Seattle.
