Historical Context
The Waterbury Automatic Telephone Company was organized under the general laws of the State of Connecticut on July 29, 1899, with an office in Waterbury. In 1904 its office was changed to Woodbury, Connecticut, and it purchased the business of the Woodbury Telephone Exchange, then owned by Charles A. Stone.
In 1910, it purchased the plant and exchange business of the Southern New England Telephone Company within the limits of the Woodbury Exchange and the name of the company was changed to the Woodbury Telephone Company.
