Historical Context
The U. S. Food Products Corporation was incorporated on September 18, 1902, in New Jersey, as the Distillers Securities Corporation. The U. S. Food Products Corporation name was adopted on March 19, 1919, when the charter was amended.
The company later acquired the stocks of the Distilling Company of America, which held nearly all of stock issued by the following subsidiaries:
- American Spirits Manufacturing Company
- Hannis Distilling Company
- Kentucky Distilling & Warehouse Company
- Peoria Malting Company
- H. H. Shufeldt & Company
- Standard Distilling & Distributing Company
The company was engaged in the manufacture of cereal products, food and feed products, syrups, alcohol, yeast, vinegar, glace fruits, fruit butters, malt, etc.
The company's primary products were alcohol related, but survived the Prohibition Era under the guise of producing the cereal and feed products and other food related items. After prohibition, the company returned to becoming a major distiller.
