Historical Context
The Schenley Distillers Corporation was founded in 1933 as a successor to the Schenley Distilling Company, which was a successor to the Schenley Products Company, which was founed by Lewis Rosenstiel in the 1920's.
The company's name stemmed from its first distillery, which was located in Schenley, Pennsylvania.
Over the years, Schenley Distillers grew to include the following companies:

In 1936, the company became the sole importer of Dewer's Scotch Whiskey. Two years later, the company became the United States distributor of Bacardi Rum (the agreement was terminated in 1945.)
Over the years, the company became a behemoth, acquiring countless distilleries, wineries and breweries.
In 1987, the company was purchased by United Distillers.
