Historical Context
Lott Hotels, Inc. was incorporated in Illinois in 1923 as a consolidation of the Webster Hotel and the Parkway Hotel, both of Chicago.
The company filed for bankruptcy in 1937 and its properties were eventually sold at auction in 1943.
In addition to the two named hotels above, the company operated the Belden-Stratford Hotel, also of Chicago.
The Belden Stratford was located in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago. It was located across the street from the Lincoln Park Zoo and Lincoln Park Conservatory.
The structure was built in the 1920s and renovated between 1989 and 1990. Notable guests over the years included Louis Armstrong and Gloria Swanson. Today it is an apartment building.
The Webster Hotel was located in the same Lincoln Park neighborhood and also is an apartment building today.
Gangsters George "Bugs" Moran, Henry Gusenberg, and optometrist Reinhardt Schwimmer all lived at the Parkway Hotel at 2100 Lincoln Park West at the time of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre in 1929. Schwimmer was one of those killed during the massacre. Just before the shooting began in the garage on Clark Street, Moran left his apartment here and headed for the garage by taking a shortcut through the alley. But he turned around when he saw a police squad car.
Today, the hotel is the Pierre Condominium.
