Historical Context
The Glen Alden Coal Company which was probably best known for dying its coal product blue as a way of "branding" its output.
Over the years, the company diversified acquiring three textile firms (Swift Manufacturing, OPP Cotton Mills and Micholas Cotton Mills) as well as the RKO theatre chain. The company also manufactured air conditioning units and firefighting equipment.
