Historical Context
The Fort Wayne, Cincinnati and Louisville Rail Road Company was incorporated in Indiana on December 6, 1881 as a reorganization of the Fort Wayne, Muncie and Cincinnati Railroad. The line which was known as the "Natural Gas Route," owned about 105 miles of single-track railroad, all in the state of Indiana, extending from Connersville northwardly to Fort Wayne.
In 1886, the line merged with the New Castle and Rushville Railroad.
In 1890, the line was acquired by the Lake Erie and Western Railroad and eventually became part of the Nickel Plate system.
